“And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!”
My partner is currently working on a big project, and let me know this morning that they were set to hit a big milestone on it.
“Oooo! How could we mark and celebrate that?” I asked.
“Hmm…I dunno…,” they replied, then essentially made this face 😬 and slowly backed away to go make lunch.
If the day was different and the roles were reversed, I would potentially have had the exact same response as my partner if asked the same question. Although I think I’ve come a long way, I’m generally still pretty uncomfortable with celebrating myself, taking breaks, and honoring special days. I don’t think I’m alone in that. I am certain that there are some inspiring folks out there who really know the value of self celebration and actually take action on engaging with it. However it’s been my experience that most folks really struggle to feel worthy of this kind of thing. They don’t want to make a fuss, don’t want to draw attention to themselves, or feel like it’s somehow selfish to mark big milestones and honor special days.
As with most things in life, the Tarot can help with this.
